![]() ![]() ![]() Throughout the course of his career Sundance Head has written and recorded with the likes of ZZ Top, been a top finisher on not one, but two major network talent competitions, had three Number 1 songs on the Texas Music charts, has been singing his entire life and toured with some of the top artists in the business. ![]() Outside of the music, Iona has campaigned for and gotten music giant Spotify to add Scots officially to their language list, and in her advocacy for music and culture has recently won the 2022 Equality Award from the Scottish Trades Union Congress, for equality within the music industry. Iona also sits on several respected folk and university organizational boards, and has letters attesting to her worth as a Scottish cultural music ambassador through her music. She is a fierce advocate for the official recognition of the Scots Language and is a fine exponent of the Doric dialect, winning the title of Performer of the Year at the Scots Language Awards 2020. Iona graduated from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a first-class honours degree in Traditional Music, and holds an FLCM Diploma (Fellow of London College of Music, equivalent to a Masters) in Traditional Voice from London College of Music. ![]() In 2020, Iona was invited to be an Official International Showcase Artist at Folk Alliance International held in New Orleans, resulting in an invitation to perform for the Library of Congress's Homegrown concert series. "Away From My Window" was premiered at a sold-out Celtic Connections performance featuring a larger musical ensemble and live on-stage sampling of source singers.Ī follow up, released in 2019, Dark Turn of Mind is Iona's first EP entirely in English, and features six ballads and songs found in both Appalachia and Aberdeenshire and has been described as "a new interpretation to the country genre" - Maverick. Iona's debut album Away From My Window was held to critical acclaim and received nationwide airplay on programmes such as BBC Radio 2 The Folk Show with Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio Scotland's Travelling Folk, Take The Floor and BBC Radio Nan Gaidheal. She was nominated for "One to Watch" and "Best Live Performance" at the Sunday Herald Scottish Culture Awards 2018, was a finalist in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year for 20, and won the 2017 Molloy Award at Birmingham Irish Trad Fest. In 2018, Iona performed at Interceltique Festival De Lorient where she was described as "a Scottish folksinger, magical and charismatic" (Rolling Stone, France). She has toured throughout the UK, Poland, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Canada and Australia, and performed with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra as part of the World Premiere of Disney Pixar's Brave in Concert at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Winner of Scots Singer of the Year 2018, and Musician of the Year 2021 - the first singer to do so - at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards, Aberdeenshire folksinger Iona Fyfe has become one of Scotland's finest young ballad singers, and has been described as "one of the best Scotland has to offer."
